By this point in the day, most people have had: Hamantaschen, Candy, Maybe some wine and Maybe not enough real food. If you’re feeling a little drained it might be that you haven’t eaten enough protein.

Protein is what helps stabilize energy, support muscle, and prevent that late-day crash. Even if you haven't eaten enough protein throughout the day it is not too late. Research shows that while spreading protein throughout the day can be helpful, what matters most is total daily intake. So if you didn't eat enough protein earlier, you can still finish the day well.

Your seudah is the perfect opportunity. Instead of eating lots of challah (bread), rice, potatoes and kreplach, focus mostly on eating:

• Chicken

• Meat

• Fish

• Eggs

• Yogurt

• Beans

Aim to make protein the foundation of your meal, not just a side.

Especially as we age, adequate protein is critical for maintaining muscle, strength, balance, and steady energy.

Purim is joyful, but it’s important to realize that it is also physically demanding. Ending the day with a real, protein-rich meal can be the difference between crashing tonight and feeling steady and strong.

Research Reference:

A 2024 systematic review published in Ageing Research Reviews found that protein supplementation improved muscle mass in older adults. But the dose, frequency, and timing of intake did not significantly influence this effect, indicating that total protein intake across the day is what matters most.
